Located right in the historic centre of the city, with its huge terrace facing the Alcazaba and the Roman Theatre, as well as its countless rooms and lounges, some of them with their own lively bar, as if they were a tavern in themselves… To speak of El Pimpi is to speak of Malaga. This emblematic restaurant is much more than a place to eat: it is a corner where the history, culture and gastronomy of the Costa del Sol intertwine. Founded in 1971 and located in an old 18th century manor house, which was also a convent, El Pimpi has established itself as an essential rendezvous in the city, not only for its traditional Malaga cuisine, but also for its close links with the arts and local culture, with poetry recitals, flamenco, talks, conferences and other events. El Pimpi’s menu is carefully designed to offer a journey through the traditional flavours of Malaga, such as ajoblanco, porra antequerana, boquerones al limón, ensalada malagueña, embutidos de ibérico de Ronda…. Always made with local and quality products, if possible. Of course, a dish as typical of Malaga as fried fish, at El Pimpi they prepare it with the utmost care and respect, using quality fish, clean oil at the right temperature? And precise cooking times so that it is cooked to perfection, i.e. juicy on the inside and with a subtle, crunchy batter. Another dish that stands out is the oxtail, prepared following a traditional recipe that brings out the juiciness and flavour of this emblematic stew.

El Pimpi is not just a restaurant; it is a cultural space. Over the years, it has become a meeting point for artists, writers, politicians and tourists looking to immerse themselves in Malaga’s culture. The restaurant regularly hosts events such as poetry readings, concerts and book launches, reinforcing its role as the city’s cultural epicentre. Among its most prominent visitors are Antonio Banderas and Pablo Alborán, who have left their mark on the famous wine barrels that decorate the interior of the restaurant. These signatures, together with the stories on the walls of the place, make El Pimpi a living museum of the social and cultural life of Malaga. El Pimpi also stands out for its commitment to sustainability and support for local producers. Most of the ingredients they use come from small farmers and fishermen in the region, reinforcing their zero-kilometre philosophy. In addition, the restaurant participates in initiatives for the preservation of Malaga’s gastronomic heritage, ensuring that traditional recipes are kept alive for future generations. With more than 50 years of history, El Pimpi has earned a place in the hearts of locals and visitors alike. It is a place where the flavours of tradition merge with an atmosphere steeped in history and culture, creating a unique and unforgettable experience. If you are in Malaga, a visit to El Pimpi is not just recommended; it is a must. As they themselves say: ‘El Pimpi is Malaga’.
