In the traditional gastronomy of Malaga we can find: boquerón malagueño, boquerón ‘vitoriano’ or, as it is commonly spelled, ‘victoriano’. A Malaga blue fish rich in flavor, which owes its name to the time of year when it is fished, around the feast of the Virgin of the Victory, patron saint of Malaga.
Origin
The first records of the term “boquerones vitorianos” date back to the 17th century thanks to the poet from Malaga, Juan de Ovando. Multiple testimonies of poets and writers throughout the 20th century. XIX praise its quality and endorse its Malaga identity.
Peculiarities
The ‘boquerón vitoriano’ is so famous that festivals have even been popularized in its honor. In Rincón de la Victoria, there is a celebration on the second Sunday of September. Celebrating the day of the Victorian Boquerón, as a closing of the summer tourist season and a tribute to the star product of its gastronomy.
