One of those unique places with the most personality on the Costa del Sol, with a spectacular terrace, perfect for breakfast, lunch or dinner overlooking the sea.

History

The Balneario de los Baños del Carmen opened its doors on 16th July 1918. It was an innovative project for the time since, unlike other baths such as those of Diana, La Estrella and Apolo, they were in the open sea and exposed to the sun, following the fashion of other cities such as Santander and San Sebastián.
The success was immediate and the project grew to include a pier, a restaurant, a screen for showing films visible from the seashore and a tennis court that hosted the first tennis tournament in Malaga.
In 1922 the first football pitch in Malaga was inaugurated as well as a dance floor of more than 2000 square metres. Festivals, open-air dances, regattas and concerts of all kinds were held, and in the gardens you could find anything from an aquarium to a fountain from which wine flowed instead of water.
In the 1950s, the Balneario hosted equestrian events such as the 11th National Equestrian Competition held in 1955. Three years later, the 300-place campsite was approved.
Now, after decades of decadence, El Balneario aims to recover its former splendour to be what it has always been, the benchmark for leisure activities by the sea.

Nowadays it offers traditional cuisine, but updated with subtle and reasonable touches of modernity, based on a wide variety of fish and seafood, which is prepared in different ways, including sardine, snapper, squid, sea bream, sea bass or octopus.

They also offer classic starters, such as Russian salad, salads, croquettes, anchovies in vinegar, ajoblanco, gazpacho, cold meats, spoon dishes… different types of rice dishes and grilled meats. Its cocktails and breakfasts are another of its attractions.
